Let’s plan our holidays in Formentera!

The holidays are now just a memory and, unfortunately, it’s time to return to the daily routine… but there’s a thought that can brighten up these grey winter days!
Imagine long white sandy beaches, crystal-clear sea, plenty of sunshine, and the perfect mix of nature and fun.
So, why not start thinking about the long-awaited summer holidays already?
Yes, we know… it might still seem a bit early to plan your next relaxing getaway, but it’s never too soon to gather some useful info about our wonderful island!
Let’s start by saying that Formentera is the smallest of the Balearic Islands. It covers an area of 82 km² and is located just a few miles from its larger sister, Ibiza. There is no airport on the island — access is only by sea.
During the summer, ferry companies increase their daily routes between Ibiza and Formentera, with departures almost every hour, making it very easy to reach. Here are some of the main ferry companies:

The island enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, with dry summers and mild winters. During the summer, temperatures usually hover around 30°C — perfect for sunbathing and swimming.
The official language is Spanish, but Italian, English, and German are also commonly spoken. The currency is the euro, as in the rest of Spain.
Shops typically open from 9:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00. During peak season, it’s common for them to open on Sundays and holidays as well.
Tipping is not mandatory, but it's customary to leave around 5% in bars, restaurants, and for hotel staff.
In case of emergency, you can call 112, the free emergency number of the Balearics (ambulance, fire department, or police), with support in Spanish, English, Catalan, and German.
The island’s hospital is located in San Francesc Xavier, on the main road between La Savina and San Francisco, km 2.9.

There are no campsites on the island, and sleeping in vehicles, on beaches, or in wooded areas is prohibited.
Formentera has a free-spirited atmosphere, and many visitors prefer renting holiday homes rather than staying in hotels — it’s often more affordable for groups.
The island is easy to explore by bike, as it’s mostly flat, except for areas like Es Caló–La Mola and the Cap de Barbaria lighthouse, which are a bit more hilly.
There are also bus routes covering the entire island, with increased service during the summer.
