Tourist tax and vehicle restrictions: what changes in 2019?
1 mese fa

Good news, friends! For the year 2019, the tourist tax remains the same as in 2018.
This tax was introduced with the aim of protecting and preserving the wonderful natural environment that makes Formentera one of the most beautiful gems of the Mediterranean, and it must be paid by all visitors.

For your convenience, here are the applicable rates:

  • Hostels: €1 + VAT (10%)
  • 1, 2 and 3-star hotels: €2 + VAT (10%)
  • 3-star superior and 4-star hotels: €3 + VAT (10%)
  • 4-star superior, 5-star and 5-star superior hotels: €4 + VAT (10%)

From the eighth day of stay onwards, the amount is reduced by half.
Payment is made directly at the accommodation, either upon arrival or departure, by the reception staff.

Exemptions apply to:

  • Children under 16
  • Travellers included in senior citizen programs
  • Relatives of individuals who must travel between islands for medical reasons

The funds collected are allocated to tourism and environmental projects, especially to offset the impact of tourism during the high season.

Attention! Important changes to vehicle traffic
A major new development in 2019 is the limitation on the number of vehicles allowed on Formentera:
Starting from January of that year, the island became the first in the Balearics to establish a maximum limit for cars and motorbikes circulating on its territory.

This measure, like the eco-tax, aims to protect the island’s fragile ecosystem. Both residents and regular visitors have welcomed the initiative.
In turn, the local government has pledged to strengthen public transport to meet all tourist needs.

So, if you plan to come to Formentera with your own vehicle, don’t forget to request the proper circulation permit. Avoid fines and possible penalties!
Stay tuned! #casayentorno
